Manchester United have won a record 19th English league title.

The Reds secured the trophy – the team’s 12th under Sir Alex Ferguson’s stewardship – by coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

In a topsy-turvy, roller-coaster ride of a season, the experience of Sir Alex's squad ultimately paid dividends in the title run-in, with last weekend’s win over Chelsea effectively sealing the silverware. Perhaps the biggest contribution to this 19th league title, though, was the team’s sparkling home form. Of United’s 17 Old Trafford league games so far this season, United have won 16 and drawn one. What’s more, the Reds conceded just 10 goals in those games… and not one in the first 45 minutes.

United’s home form meant a few bumps on the road could be absorbed. Not that there were many defeats, mind you. In fact, Sir Alex’s men didn’t lose in the league until February, at Wolves, but then lost at Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. The real stumbling block was the side’s inability before Christmas to turn away draws into wins: six of the seven away games in 2010 yielded only a point.

Of course, the only statistic that counts now is the one that says Manchester United are champions of England. Again.

Early goals from Javier Hernandez (inside the first minute) and Nemanja Vidic set Sir Alex Ferguson's side on the way to a famous win. Despite Frank Lampard's second-half effort, the Reds thoroughly deserved the three points that leaves the club only one point away from further glory.

Vital hat-trick thrills Rooney

thundered in a superb leveller and converted a penalty in a breathless 15-minute spell

Wayne Rooney believes practice paid off as he completed the fifth hat-trick of his United career from the penalty spot.

Fabio’s marauding run down the right flank culminated in a cross which struck Matthew Upson’s arm, prompting the award of the game’s third penalty, which Rooney duly slotted home to complete his own treble and United’s comeback. Still, the Reds pressed for more and looked to exploit gaps in the increasingly ragged home defence. With six minutes remaining, Chicharito notched his now customary goal by sliding in from close range after Giggs’ cross had deflected through the legs of two defenders.

“We shall not be moved,” roared the jubilant away support, who had witnessed yet another instance of the sheer bloody-mindedness that has so often separated United from all the rest.

Although his second goal was also his 100th in the Premier League for the Reds, the number ten took the greatest satisfaction from his spot-kick, awarded when, at 2-2, West Ham captain Matthew Upson was deemed by referee Lee Mason to have handled Fabio's cutback.
